2015 Retro Recap

2015 was a brilliant year for Allan Brooks Nature Centre! Many new and committed volunteers, foundations and businesses gave personal time and financial resources to help us continue doing the work of the Society.

The year began with a successful Renewal Campaign that many of you contributed towards. You helped us reach our goal of $25,000, which allowed us to renovate the nature centre’s interior and complete phase one of the roadway upgrade project. ABNC was also awarded numerous new grants for education initiatives and projects in 2015, including $5,000 from Vernon Rotary Club in celebration of their 90th Anniversary, which we will invest in refurbishing the Naturscape Gardens at ABNC with new plants, signage and information for public to learn more about what they too can do at home with plants.

The total of over $120K raised in 2015 includes admissions, grants, fundraising events like the Garage Sale that once again hit a record number in sales (over $26,000 combined), 3rd party fundraising, and sponsorships.

We created two new positions in 2015 including Assistant Education Coordinator and Cultural Interpreter, recruited lots of new volunteers to support the support of all our long-term volunteers, attracted more fresh talent to the Board of Directors, and engaged new organizations in projects and partnerships that were launched in 2015, including the all new Brooks Nature Trailer. 2016 is shaping up to be just as exciting. We look forward to sharing and involving more of you in what may be possible to achieve for nature and education at Allan Brooks.

If you’d like to get involved in any of the above projects or have some expertise and time to offer on future potential projects please let us know.
