Don’t miss your chance to meet the Caetani/Allan Brooks Artist in Residence!

Erin Stafford is an artist from Dallas Texas, and she received her masters from the university of Texas San Antonio. Over the past two months, Erin has completed the Fresh!AiR artist in residency program at the Caetani Centre, and here in the Okanagan, she is focusing on her project called “Freedom From Want.” This project touches on ideas of history, nostalgia and fantasy, and reveals personal desires through materials and form.

Join us on WEDNESDAY, August 9th from 6-9pm for the opening reception of Erin Stafford’s gallery exhibition at the Caetani Centre. Refreshments will be available, and you will get a chance to talk to Erin and hear all about her amazing work.

Solar Eclipse

On August 21, 2017, beginning at 10:15 a.m. PDT, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the United States. The glorious sight of the fully eclipsed Sun will be visible from Vernon. Millions of people are expected to travel to this “path of totality” to watch as the moon entirely covers the face of the Sun.

Take in a family adventure with the night sky for an evening of great viewing. Local members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) will gather at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre and guide our journey through the sky. On this night we’ll be able to explore the summer sky seeing into deep space! Saturn and her rings will be visible! As well as Globular clusters and Andromeda. Plus we’ll check out the new Sundial at Allan Brooks!

Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to support Allan Brooks Nature Centre.

Event is outside and weather dependant, plus dress appropriately

Mark your calendars for RespectFest – A Canada 150 Celebration Sept. 18-24, 2017. This week long multicultural festival incorporates four main themes: respecting our land and environment; honouring our indigenous history and roots; understanding our multicultural history; and, recognizing the strengths that cultural diversity brings to our community and nation. Allan Brooks Nature Centre will host four days of events starting Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 10am with a Kikinee Celebration at Coldstream Park followed by three days of Natural History, Cultural History and Vernon History events and activities, Thursday, Sept. 21 through Saturday, Sept. 23, respectively. Set in the spectacular ballroom at Sparkling Hill Resort the evening includes hors d’oeuvres, local wines, entertainment, desserts and of course, live animals. Among the wild things, will be the Raptors, allowing guests the chance to meet the birds up close and personal. Stuart Brown of The Bug Guys will also be present, along with his impressive reptile collection. Encounter the Wild Things and capture the moment with a photo courtesy of Image Studios.
Enjoy a glass of the local featured wines and delicious hors d’oeuvres from both Sparkling Hill and 1609 Restaurant & Lounge.

Family Astronomy Night @ Allan Brooks Nature Centre

Join us for the last Family Astronomy Night of the year!

Local members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) will gather at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre and guide our journey through the sky.

On this night we’ll get to see Saturn. The Andromeda Galaxy will be in the southeast. The usual suspects of globular and open star clusters esp. the Pleiades star cluster and the Double Cluster in Perseus, constellations and double stars will be available for observing. and the exciting event of the Comet C/2017 O1 ASAS-SN! It’s never easy to predict exactly how bright a comet will be. But this one has great promise.
