Explore art in nature and how to be a Naturalist! Get out into nature and discover the world around you. Armed with a sketchbook, a pencil, a naturalist and an artist, this 2 hour program takes you out in the field to connect and learn about our region’s ecological diversity – just like Allan Brooks did in the 1800’s!

This session will be taught by our Caetani Centre Artist in Residence Eric Button!

Eric Button is an artist living and working in Vancouver. He holds a BFA with a major in illustration from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Nature and Canadian culture are common themes in his work, which he explores with a sense of humour and a touch of cynicism.

Registration is open to “kids” of all ages (5 years and up) who are interested in creating art in nature! Call Allan Brooks to reserve your spot today!

– Non-members $5 drop in

For the past month the Caetani Centre has had the pleasure of hosting Fresh! AiR Artist Eric Button who visits us from Vancouver BC. As his residency draws to a close, we would like to invite you to a reception at the Caetani Centre on June 21, which kicks off a week long exhibition of his project “Ecosploitation”. Half Day or Full Day Summer Camps

Engage in hands-on natural learning with Allan Brooks Nature Centre Summer Camps! Summer programs are offered by age group on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and run July 4 to August 24, 2017. With a different theme every week!

  1. July 4, 5, 6 – Creature Features
  2. July 11, 12, 12 – Get Creative – In the Wild!
  3. July 18, 19, 20 – Raptors of the Region*
  4. July 25, 26, 27 – Learn to Camp!*
  5. August 1, 2, 3 – It’s a Bug’s Life!*
  6. August 8, 9, 10 – Slither, Hop, Crawl*
  7. August 15, 16, 17 – Wetlands & Wild Things*
  8. August 22, 23, 14 – Going Batty

Half Day Camps run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Full Day Camps run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Tuesdays: Ages 4-5*  Wednesdays: Ages 6-7     Thursdays: Ages 8+

*Programs for ages 4-5 are offered for half day only

Our Programs offer hands on nature experiences in a fun learning environment. Each session is customized for the age group indicated.

Half Day: $20 for members, $30 for non-members

Full Day: $40 for members, $55 for non-members

Are you looking for something to keep you busy this summer? How about supporting a great organization? How about getting a once in a lifetime chance to get up closer and personal with the Raptors?
We;re looking for volunteers for the Raptor Program at Allan Brooks from July 18-Aug 20. Volunteer shifts include:
Tuesday-Sunday Daily – 9:30am-12:30pm
Additionally Friday & Saturday – 2:30-6pm

Join us for our volunteer training session and see if it;s something you’d be interested in volunteering for! Volunteer for 15 hours and you’ll receive a Membership to Allan Brooks Nature Centre.

Training sessions will be held:
July 12 at 9:30am
July 13 at 4pm
July 17 at 2:30pm

Raptor Close Encounter Courses @ Allan Brooks Nature Centre

Experience a one hour encounter with some of nature’s most amazing predators. The Raptor Encounter Course will allow participants to get close and personal with several different birds of prey, including an owl, a hawk and a falcon!

Hold a hawk or an owl on your glove as you learn about how we work with them and why they are so important in our ecosystems. Witness the speed and agility of the falcons as it dives above you and be thrilled when you release the hawk and it returns to your gloved arm. It’s an experience you’ll never forget!

Looking to do it all? Book a combination ticket for an Encounter Course and Flight Demonstration for only $70 *Fees and taxes not included. Ages 8 and up.

The Raptor programs are offered in collaboration with The Raptors of Duncan, BC whose flying demonstrations and interactive programs have long been praised as being standard for bird care and health.

Encounter Courses Run: 

Tuesday-Friday – 3 Times Daily – 10am, 3pm & 4pm 

Saturday & Sunday – 2 Times Daily – 10am & 3pm

Experience the thrill of an up-close encounter with the Raptors! Beginning on July 18th, Raptor Weeks at Allan Brooks Nature Centre will run daily for five consecutive weeks.

Flight demonstrations are 30 minutes in length and great for all ages. Watch 4-5 different birds of prey fly and learn about their importance in our ecosystem. The Raptor programs are offered in collaboration with The Raptors of Duncan, BC whose flying demonstrations and interactive programs have long been praised as being a standard for bird care and health.

Stuart Brown returns to Allan Brooks to present local snake species and other reptiles in the area and discuss identification, their habits, habitat and what to do should you encounter one. With real snakes and other reptiles!

Interested in creepy and crawly things for his entire life Stuart Brown grew up on the BC coast. A passion first for frogs and salamanders grew as his father took him out to look for critters as a child. What initially started with a large insect collection has now expanded into a large and impressive live reptile collection.Stuart is completely self taught, using nature documentaries, books and experiences in the field.
