To PRE-REGISTER please contact the Allan Brooks Nature Centre at (250) 260-4227 or e-mail and connect with nature today! Pre-Registration is necessary to ensure we don't have to cancel programs due to an assumed lack of interest in the program... we don't want you to arrive and not be able to deliver our programming!!

  • All program schedules subject to change. Please contact Nature Centre before attending each session.
  • All programs held at the Nature Centre unless noted otherwise.
  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday May 3rd - NATIVE TREES, SHRUBS AND PLANTS

Join Dr. Mike Carlson at the Kalamalka Research Station for an informative presentation on drought resistant native plants and how they can be used in low maintenance gardening.

Saturday May 9th - GPS GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS

Leigh Pearson of Vernon Search and Rescue will hold an educational morning demonstrating how to use GPS for finding individuals or caches. Bring your own handheld GPS if you have one. Learn how to know exactly where you are.

Gwen Steele formerly of Dryland Gardens Kelowna  is back again with her great knowledge and wonderful ideas on landscaping. Using native plants will save labour and conserve water in this semi-arid Okanagan climate.

Saturday June 13th - FENG SHUI IN THE GARDEN

Teresa Hwang, a master Feng Shui practitioner ,well known interior & landscape designer, will show how to achieve balance and harmony in your garden and home. A short slide show is included. Be sure to register early for this one.

Saturday June 20th - THE ABC’s of PHOTOGRAPHY

Get back to basics and learn about your camera’s features with Tom Skinner. If you are shooting exclusively on Auto then this course is for you. Learn about ISO, shutter speed, depth of field and composition. Bring your camera and manual.

FRIDAY June 26th - STARRY SKIES

Come for a wonderful evening. See amazing moon craters and planets through professional telescopes at the best location in the North Okanagan.  Members of the Astronomical Society will be on hand with explanations. Bring your own telescopes or binoculars.

Saturday July 4th - FUN FOR GRANNY AND ME

Suitable for 3-6yr olds. Bring Grandma or Grandpa or? Have fun on the trail with Joanne. There are games for the kids while walking on the trail to the Nature Pond. Prizes and surprises too.

SATURDAY  July 18th - THE NATURE OF SNAKE

Everything you always wanted to know about snakes. Former Park Warden Scott Alexander will be with us again with his very popular and fascinating presentation - sneaky, slithery, silky snakes. Always a hit with the children.

SUNDAY July 26th - ART ON THE HILL

Bring your paints or sketch book and enjoy a sunny morning outdoors. Gardens, flowers, birds and pond we have them all for your enjoyment. Guided by artist  June Mitchell.

Saturday August 9th  - HOW THE VALLEY WAS FORMED

Over the millions of years a series of natural events shaped the North Okanagan. Geologist Jamie Kidston will point out and explain the historic upheavals and the forces that gave the landscape we see today.

FRIDAY Sept 25th - ASTRONOMY ON THE HILL

 Another astronomical  Astronomy Night at the Nature Centre  with Hugh Carter. With Jupiter in the west and a first quarter moon, there will be great sightings. There will be huge telescopes for your enjoyment.
