Allan Brooks Nature Centre displays and features a variety of nature-associated learning opportunities, information, activities and experiences indoors and out for individuals to large groups whether you’re local or a visitor to our region. Come to see it for yourself!

  • “How do we get from here to there?” One of our feature exhibits, promoting the importance of preserving habitat corridors in our environment. Come follow the lives of a badger, bighorn sheep, spade-foot toad and gopher snake through the seasons!
  • Habitat Room – Immerse yourself in the rich diversity of life and ecosystems in the Okanagan. Enjoy the sights and sounds of regional flora and fauna in four distinct ecosystems found throughout our region.
  • Feature Exhibits – Previously: Birds of the Grassland – Discover the sounds and behaviors of some of the grassland species of birds found in our region. Upcoming (April 2015): Keeping Nature in Our Future – understand how and why a strategy to conserve biodiversity of our region has been created. Also upcoming (April 2015): How to be a Naturalist – learn and explore how to know nature in your own backyard, observe and connect with your interest in the natural world and gain access to Citizen Science opportunities throughout our region.
  • Discovery Room – Explore and experience nature with hands-on displays, touch drawers and interactive exhibits in the Discovery Room. Learn about grasslands, birds of prey, snakes, and insects, observe the amazing lives of honeybees, or enjoy some play time at the water table or with wildlife puppets.
  • Grassland Trail – Walk the 800m Grasslands Trail, participate in a self-guided tour with interpretation stations around the grounds, discover ample opportunity to observe natural phenomena and a diversity of plants and wildlife along the Grasslands Trails. Stop by “Marmot City” and be entertained by the behaviors of resident Yellow-bellied Marmots. Spend some time at the Pond Learning Centre and get to know about the abundance and diversity of pond life.
  • Outstanding Views – Discover spectacular views of surrounding landscapes and lakes from locations all around the grounds.
