Growing Our Community
Community is a feeling of fellowship with others through sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals with people of all ages and walks of life.
Every public program and event we host at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre creates community by bringing guests together to experience nature together. It’s wonderful to watch the excitement of a child seeing an owl fly right over their head, or a grandparent and grandchild learning something new together. We feel part of something larger when engaged and learning about the world around us.
Enhancing our Facilities
In response to our program expansion this past summer our Peregrine Theatre was built with donated equipment, lumber and volunteer hours. Upgrades to the current space would respond to our needs as well as serve a regional desire for an arts and cultural performance space.
What does Greater Vernon need most when it comes to culture?
This question was recently asked by The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) of the public. The response? Our top three needs were identified as:
1. More venues for performing arts
2. More special events/festivals
3. More cultural facilities and activities for youth
Enhancements to our facilities will compliment our natural outdoor setting, welcome more community, and allow us to host a multitude of public events, programs and gatherings. We commit to an eco-friendly utilization of resources, which will maximize efficiencies.
Facility Expansion includes: Peregrine Theatre upgrades, ticket kiosk creation, additional bathrooms and additional parking.
Proposed upgrades will serve as a resource to community members of Vernon and area, with identified uses including: Outdoor Performances, Theatre Groups, Educational Presentations, Nature Programming, Corporate Events, Weddings and more.
