Volunteers Needed!
Many organizations have seen their volunteer support drop in recent years, and this is true with the Allan Brooks Nature Centre. The successful operation of our center relies on our valued volunteers, and there are many opportunities for involvement! Some key positions currently open include:
Board of Directors:
- Personnel Director
- Marketing Director
- Volunteer Coordinator
- Other positions will be available next spring.
Time to renew your memberships! Christmas gift idea!
Memberships are crucial to support our operations! Last year our members had unlimited visits to the center as well as free admission to the Thursday evening “Summer Sunset Series” – interpretive programs with special guest speakers and live animal displays. See About Us – Memberships.
Completion of the Bella Vista – Goose Lake Range Sensitive Ecosystems Inventory (SEI)
The Allan Brooks Nature Centre, in partnership with the Okanagan Indian Band, developed a proposal and oversaw a project to use a science-based approach to map sensitive ecosystems on the Bella Vista – Goose Lake Range, a large undeveloped grassland within the City of Vernon and Okanagan Indian Band reserve land. For more information, see Bella Vista – Goose Lake Range Sensitive Ecosytems Inventory.
Habitat Conservation Trust Fund (HCTF) support for “Sensitive Ecosystems Inventory and Urban Growth Management”
Funding from HCTF supported this year’s successful “Summer Sunset Series”, and an on-going project to use the Sensitive Ecosystems Inventory in planning for urban growth. For more information see: SEI and Growth Management.
